I believe there is a difference between having authority and having dominion. Authority is the legal right to possess, command or influence, however it doesn’t necessarily mean that the one who has the legal right is acting upon it. When one has dominion they are said to prevail or control a region or people; they dominate a specific area or sphere. Dominating puts someone in a place of superiority simply because they did what was necessary to obtain it. This is exactly how the enemy operates, taking dominion by force but having no authority to do so. We, as God’s people, have been given the authority by the atoning Blood of Christ to take dominion and recapture what has been lost.
