Extended Gestation for Big Movements

I have started reading the bible from cover to cover. This will be the third time.

And, the LORD is already teaching me something very cool.

In Genesis 5 and 11, we see the lineage. That can be a boring topic. Such and such gave birth to so and so. He lived 900 million years.

But, I started looking at something.

In Genesis 5:

  • Adam’s son came at 130 years
  • Seth’s came at 185
  • Enosh’s came at 90
  • Kenan’s came at 70
  • Mahalalel’s came at 65

You can see the downward progress. I believe that as sin entered, life was greatly changed, and people didnt live as long.

In verse 18, we see a change. Jared lived 162 years and gave birth to Enoch.

Enoch’s sone came at 65.

Methuselah’s came at 187 when he became the father of Lamech.

Lamech had Noah at 182.

That’s a big jump. I believe that it was a double portion jump. Grandfather and father. It says about Noah in verse 29, “this one will give us rest from our work and from the toil of our hands arising from the ground which the LORD has cursed.” Deliverer.

Then, Noah started having kids at 500. 500!

Shem, Ham and Japheth were born.

Evil was upon the earth. The flood came.

What’s the point?

Each time that a father waited for an extended period to have kids, a generation would come behind him that moved in greatness. It’s like God spends some extra time incubating or in gestation of the father before the next generation comes.

Look at the guys: Enoch (walked with God), Methuselah and Lamech (Noah). Noah’s kids (reproduced the earth).

When you get to Genesis 11, you see that the next normal wave is half as long as the others. Most were giving birth in their 30’s.

Except Terah. He gave birth at 70.

And, his son was Abram.

Abram did the same. Isaac was born around 100.

When God births a movement through a man, the gestation period will be extended.
