Rehoboam was Solomon’s son. The LORD had already passed judgment on the line of David, so Rehoboam was doomed before it ever got going. But, what is interesting is that he attempted to find wisdom from the elders on how to lead the people. He didnt know. The mantle didnt follow Solomon.
Worse yet, he didnt listen to the counsel of the men he sought out. He really didnt get it. But, we can glean from the counsel a key to leadership:
2 Chronicles 10:7
They spoke to him, saying, “If you will be kind to this people and please them and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”
This is wisdom.
