10 SIGNS OF A PROPHET’S PROFILE

By: Jeremiah Johnson

I developed this profile after training and working with all kinds of prophets (thousands) from around the world over the last 15 years. From churches, prophetic schools, conferences, and roundtables, it has been my honor and privilege to love the prophets and steer them toward health and maturity.

1. Confront Religious Control

Prophets are protectors of the Church from unhealthy and unbiblical control that will constrict Holy spirit movement and spiritual growth. A true prophet’s ministry will appear at times very confrontational and critical of existing church structures that have become or are becoming obsolete, irrelevant, and a great hindrance to the Spirit of God. Walking in love and truth is key here. (Rev 2-3)

2. Burden- Bearing

True prophets feel and identify with the hearts and feelings of those around them in profound ways. They are very sensitive to spiritual atmospheres in cities, churches, and even homes. They easily detect what leaders and saints are going through although it is usually not obvious to the majority of people. (Galatians 6:2)

3. Wilderness Trained

True prophets are trained in ways that involve deep crushing and breaking. They face constant seasons of crucifixion to produce character adjustments essential to their calling. (Jeremiah 1)

4. Overly Serious About Life in General

Many prophets experience difficulty just laughing and having hobbies. Many are born with a crushing sense of destiny and urgency. While people are ready to vacation and relax, prophets are consumed with the burden and word of the Lord for a lost and dying generation. (Jeremiah 20; Isaiah 6)

5. Forerunners

True prophets live as forerunners, always out of step with those around them. They carry deep questions about life and their calling that they don’t share with anyone else. Prophet’s help the church “see” what is coming and feel deeply moved to prepare themselves and others for the days ahead. True prophets live ahead of their time and are plagued by constant frustration that the people around them have not partnered with the revelation they are releasing. (John 3)

6. The Fruit of Rejection

True prophets often have not fully made peace with their calling and its consequences and can therefore seem hard at times. They can appear angry and defensive as they are geared in advance for anticipated hurt. This is an area they must work toward healing constantly. If prophets do not regularly receive deliverance from the spirit of rejection, they will become bitter and toxic to those they are called to. All prophets are called into the wilderness but very few make it out due to the rejection they experience which is part of their training.

7. Uncommon Experiences

True prophets have dreams, visions, angelic appearances, demonic attacks, and deep spiritual insights. They are constantly processing through uncommon experiences. This is why they need prophetic fathering and mothering to help them get rooted and grounded in the Word of God. (1 Cor 12)

8. Awareness Deficits

True prophets have little consciousness of what might be viewed by others as weird or strange behavior, but to them is totally normal. This is why they desperately need community. Their tendency to constantly function in the heavenly realms without understand earthly dimensions can cost them friendships they really need to bring them a sense of normal.

9. Eccentric Personalities

True prophets seldom understand themselves until there is maturity and healing. Often times their personality is shaped by all the rejection they receive because they don’t think, feel, or even act like other people. They must go through healthy counseling and accountability to work through these issues.

10. Sinful Self-Protections

True prophets may develop illegal self-protections based in judgments on others and fear of vulnerability. As children, many became the family scapegoat and are set up for ridicule and dark confusion in life. Prophets need community and accountability to help them become healthy and whole.
